What Happens In The Guided Track [TFLP153]
Are you sick of your job as a lawyer and want to find an alternative career? Have you been searching for a coaching program for lawyers that can support you in that process?
If you’ve been thinking about investing in a coaching program for lawyers or even working with a career coach, then today’s blog post will be helpful.
Today I am talking about what to expect in the Guided Track, my upcoming group coaching program for lawyers who want to leave the legal profession and pursue an alternative career.
Coaching Program For Lawyers
Before getting into the Guided Track, let’s take one step back and talk about Former Lawyer’s coaching programs for lawyers. There are two main programs, the Collab and the Guided Track.
The Collaborative
The Former Lawyer Collaborative is a self-paced coaching program for lawyers I have created. You can join any time and get access to a curriculum called The Former Lawyer Framework. The Framework is a five-step process I use with my clients to help them figure out what they want to do as an alternative career.
Joining the Collab gives you access to that curriculum and monthly live coaching calls. In addition to that, you get replays of all the events we’ve had in the past. Also, when you enroll, you get access for the lifetime of the program.
The Collab is a great option for lots of different types of lawyers. If you prefer to work at your own pace, the Collab is a great place to start and get support in figuring out what’s next. You also access a community of like-minded lawyers doing the same thing.
The Guided Track
While running Former Lawyer, I’ve learned many people do not prefer self-paced coaching programs. A lot of people prefer structure around the work they’re doing in this career exploration identification space.
Out of that grew the next coaching program for lawyers, the Guided Track. The Guided Track is a live 10-week small-group intensive for lawyers who want to jumpstart their search for an alternative career.
What Happens In The Guided Track?
Now that we’ve got the two different coaching programs for lawyers covered, we’ll dive a bit deeper into the Guided Track. Here’s what happens in the Guided Track once you become a member.
Small Groups & Weekly Calls
First of all, you’ll be in a small group. The Fall 2022 Guided Track hosts nine people max. We’ll be meeting weekly for 10 weeks. There’s a week-by-week action plan that tells you what to work within The Former Lawyer Framework each week. You’ll be working through the framework with other lawyers who are working through the same action plan.
Those weekly calls are typically an hour to an hour and a half. For Fall 2022, they will start at 8:00 PM Eastern on Tuesday evenings. On each call, we’re going to check in on your progress. I’ll answer all of your questions, and we’ll tackle issues as they arise.
Personality Assessments
On this round of the Guided Track, we will have a half-day private interactive virtual workshop with a GALLUP Certified Strengths Coach. In that workshop, you’ll do hands-on exercises to gain additional insight into how your strengths relate to your alternative career path.
You’ll also get some custom analytics beyond what you would get in a typical 34 Report if you buy it from the Clifton Strengths website. Plus, it includes two personality assessments through the Enneagram Institute. One is the RHETI, and the other is IVQ.
Free 1:1 Coaching Call
As part of this Guided Track experience, you also get a free 30-minute one-on-one call with me which you can use anytime during the Guided Track. Some people use it right at the beginning. Some people use it in the middle when they run into something tricky. Some people use it towards the end as they develop their post-Guided Track plan. It’s all up to you to use it when you feel you need it most.
Collaborative Membership
Also included in your enrollment is membership in The Former Lawyer Collaborative. That gives you access to The Former Lawyer Framework, community, and the monthly calls. And this extends beyond the 10 weeks of the Guided Track.
So, you won’t be left alone when the 10 weeks are up. You can continue inside of the broader Collab community, come to the monthly calls, and get support in that way. You’ll get access to the group, curriculum, and all those things.
Structured Coaching Program For Lawyers
What I love about running the Guided Track is working closely with people and seeing the transformations week-to-week. It’s really wonderful, and I know that for people who want more structure and find that to be really helpful, the Guided Track provides that.
Guided Track Versus One-On-One Coaching
Let’s talk a bit about the Guided Track coaching program versus 1:1 Coaching and why a coaching program for lawyers may be a better solution.
Limited Availability
Working with people one-on-one is also something that I love. However, I don’t do a lot of one-on-one work. I aim to work with about 12 people one-on-one in the year. There’s a limited amount of availability around me working with people one-on-one. In addition, working one-on-one is a significant investment of time and money.
Not everyone is prepared to invest required for one-on-one coaching. The Guided track is a middle ground between the Collab, which is self-paced and includes monthly coaching but not on a particular schedule, and the one-on-one experience that is much more intensive, both time and money-wise.
Price
Membership to the Collab is $1,500, the Guided Track is $2,850. If you work with me one-on-one for a 12-session package, it’s currently $7,950. You can see how the Guided Track offers a lot of the benefits from working more closely with me while also including the value of the group coaching experience and the Collab experience in that 10-week small group container.
Get On The Guided Track
The Guided Track starts on Tuesday, September 13th. If you’re interested in the Guided Track coaching program for lawyers, I strongly encourage you to check out the page for more information.

Mentioned In This Article
Hi, and welcome to The Former Lawyer Podcast. I'm your host, Sarah Cottrell. I practiced law for 10 years and now I help unhappy lawyers ditch their soul-sucking jobs. On this show, I share advice and strategies for aspiring former lawyers, and interviews with former lawyers who have left the law behind to find careers and lives that they love.
If you've been thinking about working with a career coach to figure out what it is that you want to do that isn't practicing law, then today's episode I think will be really helpful for you. Today I am talking about what to expect in the Guided Track.
First, let me briefly step back and talk to you about the overall ecosystem of the various career coaching offers that I have for lawyers. You, I'm sure, have heard me talk about if you've listened to the podcast before of The Former Lawyer Collaborative. The Former Lawyer Collaborative is a self-paced program that I have created for lawyers you can join at any time and when you join, you get access to a curriculum that I've created called The Former Lawyer Framework.
The Former Lawyer Framework is a five-step process that I use with all of my clients to help them figure out what it is that they want to do next. When you join the Collab, you get access to that curriculum, you also get access to monthly live coaching calls. In addition to that, you get access to replays of all the various events that we've had in the past.
Some of those events are things like workshops related to how to put together a resume, panels with former lawyers who have gone into different types of careers, for example, legal tech, operations, DEI, recruiting, higher ed, all that is included when you enroll in The Former Lawyer Collaborative. Also, when you enroll you get lifetime access, which means you get access for the lifetime of the program.
The Collab is a great option for lots of different types of lawyers. If you're someone who prefers to work at your own pace, which is definitely something that I often prefer, the Collab is a great place for you to get started and to get support in figuring out what's next and also get access to a community of lawyers who are like minded and are doing the same thing.
But here's something that I've learned over my years now of running Former Lawyer. I'm a bit of a weirdo and a lot of people do not prefer things that are self paced. A lot of people prefer for there to be some sort of structure around the work that they're doing in this career exploration identification space.
Out of that grew the next offer that I have for lawyers. We have the Collab which is self paced, a large group, and you can enroll at any time. Then in addition to that, we have the Guided Track, which is what I am wanting to talk to you about today because the Guided Track starts in one week.
What is the Guided Track? The Guided Track is a live 10-week small-group intensive for lawyers who are wanting to jumpstart their search for an alternative career. What is involved? First of all, you have a small group, in this case, the fall 2022 Guided Track is capped at nine people max and we will be meeting weekly for 10 weeks. You have a week-by-week Guided Track action plan and that tells you what to work on each week within The Former Lawyer Framework.
Each call you're going to come to the call and we're going to check in on your progress. I'll answer all of your questions. We'll tackle issues as they arise and you'll be working through the framework together along with other people who are working through the same action plan.
Those weekly calls are typically an hour to an hour and a half. They are going to be this round for fall 2022, they will be at 8:00 PM, Eastern on Tuesday evenings. The orientation call for the Guided Track for the fall is going to be on Tuesday, September 13th at 8:00 PM. Then following that we will have 10 weeks of calls where we are talking through your results from the past week, the things that you've worked on inside of the framework and what you have coming up next.
But that's not the only thing that's part of the Guided Track experience. In addition to having this 10-week small group experience, you also get some of the assessments that I recommend inside of the framework which are paid. In the Guided Track, you get all of those for free as part of the process. That includes a Clifton Strengths Assessment and 34 Report. It also includes two personality assessments that I recommend and have my clients use. One is the RHETI, and the other is IVQ and those are both through the Enneagram Institute.
In addition to all of that, this round of the fall 2022 Guided Track, we are also going to have a half day private interactive virtual workshop with a GALLUP Certified Strengths Coach. In that workshop, you're going to be doing hands-on exercises for gaining additional insight into how your strengths relate to your potential career path. You're also going to get some custom analytics above and beyond what you would get in a typical 34 Report if you were to just buy it from the Clifton Strengths website.
Plus as part of this Guided Track experience, you also get a free 30-minute one-on-one call with me which you can use anytime during the Guided Track. Some people use it right at the beginning. Some people use it in the middle when they run into something tricky. Some people use it towards the end as they're developing their post-Guided Track plan.
The other important thing for you to know is that included in your enrollment in the Guided Track is membership in The Former Lawyer Collaborative. That gives you access to The Former Lawyer Framework and the community and the monthly calls beyond the end of the Guided Track to support you beyond the 10 weeks.
At the end of the 10 weeks, you aren't just left to be by yourself. You continue inside of the broader Collab community and can come to the monthly calls and get support in that way. You get access to the group, you have access to the curriculum, all those things.
One of the things that I like the most about running the Guided Track is that I get to work with people more closely over a period of time and get to see the changes, the ahas, and the transformations week-to-week. It's really wonderful and also I know that for people who are wanting a little bit more of that, “Here's the deadline for this. Here's the deadline for this. Here's the deadline for this,” which many people find to be really helpful, this provides that.
Let's talk a bit about this offer, the Guided Track versus the other offering that I have which is working with people one-on-one. Working with people one-on-one is also something that I really love. I don't do a lot of one-on-one work. Generally speaking at this point, I aim to work with about 12 people one-on-one in the year. That means basically starting one new one-on-one client per month and that's it. There's a really limited amount of availability around me working with people one-on-one.
In addition, working one-on-one is a significant investment and not everyone is prepared to invest the degree of time and money that is required for one-on-one coaching. The Guided track is a great middle ground between the experience of the Collab, which is self paced and does include monthly coaching but is not on a particular schedule, and the one-on-one experience that is much more intensive both time and money wise.
Currently right now as it stands, to join the Collab is $1,500, the Guided Track this fall, if fall 2022 Guided Track is $2,850. Remember that that $2,850 includes not only your 10 weeks of the intensive, which again, it's a small group, it's capped at nine people max, it also includes membership in The Former Lawyer Collaborative.
Right now as I'm recording, if you work with me one-on-one, we work together at least initially in a 12-week session package and that package is currently $7,950. You can see how the Guided Track offers a lot of the benefits that you get from working more closely with me while also including the value of the group experience and the Collab experience in addition to that 10-week small group container.
Again, this episode is releasing on Monday, September 5th. The Guided Track is going to be starting on Tuesday, September 13th. If you're interested in the Guided Track, please I strongly encourage you to go check out the website to see more information. It’s very straightforward, formerlawyer.com/guidedtrack.
